As a brown girl with acne-prone skin, I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with consistent breakouts. However, with the right skincare routine, it's possible to improve the appearance of your skin and boost your confidence!

First and Foremost
It's important to establish a gentle and consistent skincare routine. This means cleansing your face twice a day with a mild, non-comedogenic cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and makeup. Avoid harsh scrubs or cleansers that can strip your skin of its natural oils and irritate your acne. I recommend:
To use, wet your face with lukewarm water and pump a small amount of the cleanser onto your fingertips. Gently massage the cleanser onto your face, avoiding the eye area and focusing on your t - zone. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry with a clean towel.

Consider incorporating an acne-fighting ingredient into your routine. Salicylic acid is a great choice as it helps to unclog pores and reduce inflammation. You can find this ingredient in various forms, such as a toner, serum, or spot treatment. For this I have a few recommendations!
To use, apply a pea-sized amount of the booster onto your fingertips and gently massage it onto your face, focusing on areas with dark spots or uneven skin texture. Allow the product to absorb into your skin before applying moisturizer. Use this once a day a gradually build tolerance.

Apply the toner onto a cotton pad and swipe over your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Start by using the toner once a day, preferably in the evening, and gradually increase to twice a day, if needed. Be sure to follow up with a moisturizer and sunscreen during the day. You can also use this for your bacne and other problematic areas on your body as it tackles uneven skin tone – a common brown girl problem…
This toner is a gentle exfoliating toner that helps to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation, and promote a brighter, more radiant complexion. It contains 7% glycolic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps to dissolve dead skin cells and unclog pores.
Moisturiser
In addition to an acne-fighting ingredient, you should also use a moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated. Look for one that is oil-free and lightweight, and won't clog your pores. Applying a moisturiser also helps to protect your skin from further damage, which can exacerbate acne.
I use and trust my favourite First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream 170g
This has tackled my combination skin – dry, itchy, oily and easily irritated – skin so well that I don’t think I will be going back!
It contains colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, and allantoin, which work together to nourish and protect the skin barrier. This fragrance-free formula is safe for even the most sensitive skin types and can be used all over the body, including on the face.
Don't forget to protect your skin from the sun!
Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher can help to prevent sun damage and hyperpigmentation, which can make acne scars more visible. I use La roche Posay and Supergoop!:
This melts into the skin leaving a matt finish and leaving no white cast at all! Shop their sunscreen lines to purchase the right one for you but if you have acne-prone skin – I would recommend the one I have linked.
Lastly, remember that skincare is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Everyone's skin is different, so it's important to listen to your skin and adjust your routine accordingly. Don't be afraid to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional if you're struggling to find the right products for your skin.
Taking care of your skin can have a positive impact on your overall well-being. With a consistent skincare routine and the right products, you can improve the appearance of your acne-prone skin and feel confident in your own skin.
